Our alumni Elizabeth Rivera featuring in Hispanic Showcase article

Former student Elizabeth Rivera recently featured in an article for the Hispanic Showcase series of the American Institute of Architect’s New Jersey Chapter.

Elizabeth, an architect in training and alumni of our class of 2013/2014, wrote her thesis named Collaborative Resilience: Optimizing Disaster Mitigation Strategies for the Special Communities of Puerto Rico specifically on the topic of disaster mitigation strategies for informal communities in PR. She currently works at CWB Architecture in Manahawkin, New Jersey.

In the article, Elizabeth talks about her time with us at UIC Barcelona, specifically the socio-spatial workshop at Barcelona’s Fondo neighbourhood and the field trip to Rio das Pedras, a favela of Rio de Janeiro, her volunteer experiences with Habitat for Humanity in Puerto Rico and teaching English as a Second Language, as well as the challenges she has faced when moving to the United States.
